Random Announcement Update
Nov. 17th, 2006 10:59 amI like this quote from a recent interview with Bradley Whitford. He was asked for some advice for college students, but I think it works well for pretty much anyone. It's not profound or anything, just well-stated.
"My biggest advice is no matter what it is you want to do, want to do it more than you want to be the profession. In other words, want to act more than you want to be an actor. Want to write more than you want to be a writer. Want to govern more than you want to be a politician. Just don't be a requirement-fulfilling ass-kisser. Really find something you love to do because that will sustain you. The goal will not sustain you, the doing it will."
We're going to see Casino Royale tonight! The 10:15 show at The Legends 14! *Quivers in anticipation* I love this story!
In other news -
I just finished reading "Blackwood Farm" by Anne Rice earlier this week. Because I need to reassure myself occasionally, maybe every ten years or so now, that her writing has indeed gotten as bad as I remember it getting when I quit reading her the last time. It has. It did. This one just seems to be cobbled together out of little leftover bits from all of her other series - it's got Lestat, although only in the frame story, Mayfair witches, Lasher-esque spirit manifestations, the Talamasca, and monologues about God and the nature of faith. Oh, and sex. No mummies, but she did throw in a hermaphroditic vampire - for no apparent reason other than to say - "Look, here's a vampire - who's a hermaphrodite! Isn't that weird?" Bleah. But at least I didn't buy the book. Thank you, library.
In fun with household products; we got a new vaccuum cleaner with our wedding gift cards from Target on Tuesday. It's a bagless Hoover model, with a pet hair removal attachment that has it's own rotating brush. Just doing test runs around the living room with it the first night, I vaccuumed up enough pet hair to knit another cat. And we had a vaccuum cleaner before this! Ewww! And neato - but Ewww!
Watched Two for the Money on Wednesday night. Interesting film. Really good dialog. Great cast. Not a setting that I would have expected to enjoy watching in a film - sports betting, specifically on college football - but it actually drew me in because I knew nothing about it. And it's really a character piece, not about football or betting. So, definitely not a waste of an evening. On the whole, I rather liked it.
And...I'm done.
