Ah, nostalgia.
gmskarka and I just finished watching
Life On Mars. There are sadly only two short seasons of what has to be one of the most existential TV shows EVAR. Sigh. I’ll really miss it. Best time travel/mind fuck/1970s pastiche cop show I’ve seen, with utterly fantastic characters. You care so much about them that watching the last episode feels like you’re saying goodbye to good friends. Plus, it can also lead to deep conversations about the nature of life and death. British TV can do these sorts of things really, really well when given the chance. They’re threatening an American version, but don’t wait for that – watch this one.
My exposure to movies like the ones paid tribute to in
Grindhouse came largely from seriously edited versions that appeared on late night TV and those that became famous enough to make it to video - But what’s not to love about a movie that
Rolling Stone calls
"The most violent chick flick ever."? I think Tarantino’s “Death Proof” is the better film, plus I have a leftover fondness from childhood for muscle car chases, but my favorite moment overall was Rodriguez's use of the Reel Missing edit in “Planet Terror”.
And I'm really looking forward to a direct-to-video release of "Machete"...
