No, seriously. I know that people losing their jobs and their homes is terrible, but if over all a slow recovery teaches us how not to be over-spending, resource-gobbling asshats, isn't that a good thing?

I mean,

When gas prices went through the roof, people drove less. Which is a habit that apparently stuck, because we are continuing the trend, and driving less every month. And therefore using fewer resources.

Now, people are cutting back on credit card spending, which means that they're actually living within their means. Which I kinda think is better than pretending to a life-style that you can't actually afford.

And, there are companies now doing things like re-fitting the Empire State Building to make it more eco-friendly. They're doing it to save money over the life of the building, of course, but it also means it will be using about 38% less energy than it does now.

Which, over the long term, I'm really quite okay with.
