Had a very busy weekend, mostly on Saturday, that went a little something like this:
Got up at seven-ish to mow the lawn before it got to hot, and was finished by 9 am. Worked on cleaning the house until about noon, stopped for lunch, then headed over to my sister's apartment with
gmskarka to help them load the moving van for their trip to Durango, CO. According to my brother-in-law, we're not losing a sister, we're gaining a free place to stay in a nice little resort/college town near skiing. We also gained a previously planned upon dresser for our bedroom, and a not-so-planned-for very mod tripod breakfast table in aluminum and glass with matching barstools. (It's amazing the things you end up with that just won't fit into a jam-packed truck. :)) The dog is not at all pleased, since the new table means that all the food is about two feet above her head, instead of at convenient nose-height, but the cats love the new plush-seats on the stools.
After unloading all our loverly new furniture and showering, it was past time to get on the road to meet the teenager's plane at KCI. With our lateness compounded by having to stop for gas, I pushed my luck and the gas pedal just a little too far, and also ended up with a delay caused by a speeding ticket on 435. Sigh. Not fun. The teenager was only a "little" panicked by the time we picked her up, mostly due to the fact that her plane got in about fifteen minutes early, and we were five minutes late on her original schedule. (Yes, just five minutes. When I speed, I don't mess around.) We got her luggage just fine, and had a much more sedate drive back to Lawrence, stopped for pizza at Papakeno's, then took her home so that she could start unpacking and have her best friend over to catch up on their summers, while
gmskarka and I headed back out to meet up with my sister and parents for a bit more chatting before they passed out in preparation for the caravan to Colorado on Sunday.
Sunday was a bit more relaxed, including not bothering to get up until almost noon, and doing nothing more strenuous then a quick pattern-snagging visit to the fabric store, followed by a leisurely stroll around downtown Lawrence to visit the comic store and a few other shops.
Now of course, I have sewing from now until doomsday to look forward to, because I want us to look snazzy for opening weekend. Busy busy busy.
