Feeling sluglike...

lhskarkaFor various reasons, some good, some bad, since last Thursday I have been getting to sleep somewhere between 1 and 3 am every night. Since I have had to get up at about seven each of those mornings, including this one, I have now become rather zombie-fied and hope that I do not fall asleep on my keyboard this afternoon, which could result in a post that looks something like this :"!#$^&*(*^&*HGDGKJglarp79347flsiIFKL". My joints and muscles feel like they are full of sand.
One of the good reasons to stay up late was as follows: I learned two important lessons about wedding receptions this weekend- 1) I no longer own any appropriate summery dresses, and 2) Do not go expecting to be bored.![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
gmskarka and I went to a reception for an old college friend on Saturday. We see Scott and Laurie about every six months at parties and such, but we aren't the constant companions that we once were, so Gareth and I really expected to make small talk, sit through the standard reception tricks and toasts, then quietly slip out after an hour or two. Consequently, I wore shoes that were designed perfectly to look good while sitting down, but kill my feet if I spend a large amount of time standing or worse yet, dancing in them. Which is of course exactly what I ended up doing. As it turns out, old friends that we had not seen in years turned up for the wedding (of course), so we ended up staying for the entire reception, having a grand time talking and yes, you guessed it, dancing. My back, thighs and arches did not thank me later. But I did get to meet our friend Jim's fiance, who is an absolutely wonderful woman, perfect for Jim, with all the same interests that he has and more. By the end of the evening it felt like we were old friends, a fact that I am sure scares Jim to no end, and she had invited the two of us to come down and vist them in Austin during the next film festival. I'm digging out old pictures of Jim from college to send her this week. All in all, it was a really splendid time, and I will definitely make sure to wear shoes more appropriate for dancing to the next one.
But right now, sandwiches for dinner and asleep by nine sounds really good.
