Tired with good cause.
Sep. 25th, 2009 04:46 pmIt has been a long, long, lovely week.
Monday was Electric Boogaloo's birthday, so we braved the mall on Sunday and took her shopping at Hot Topic with a friend. She got cute things like a Ghostbusters t-shirt designed to look like the uniform, complete with the backpack printed on the back and a "Rookie" name tag. And I got GIR shoes!!! Because I couldn't help myself. They are cute and canvas and covered with little dog-suited Girs eating cupcakes and are made of win!
On EB's actual birthday, we took her to WA for sushi deliciousness with my parents, and then out for ice cream. And then took the freshly minted sixteen year old home at her request to catch the season premiere of Big Bang Theory. She is indeed, geek spawn. :)
Tuesday was uneventful, which made a nice breather. :) Sons of Anarchy did make me giggle, though. There was a scene that featured a porno being filmed (What, they're a biker gang - of course they have shares in an adult film studio - duh.) The two "characters" were a man half-dressed in a business suit and a scantily clad woman who was busy whipping him and scolding "You're a bad boss, Mr. Draper." (Mad Men themed porn for the win? If the actors looked as good as they do in the real show, I'd totally watch that.)
We spent Wednesday and Thursday in the company of Gareth's long time friend-who-lives-in-the-internet, China Mieville, who was in town to give a lecture and do book signings at the university. We took EB along for the Wednesday night reading from his next book, and I think we'll be loaning her pretty much everything else he has written in the very near future. Getting to spend time with China in person again was really refreshing. Not only is he brilliant to converse with, but I admit to being completely hooked on his optimistic outlook towards the rest of humanity. Seriously. So many of the intelligent, well-educated people I know (yes, I include myself) have such a jaded view of our species that it's kind of depressing. Hearing his take on how people really aren't awful was a delight. I look forward to the next time we get to see him, as I think he's really good people. And in general, the mid-week group social thing with the likes of
mckitterick and
chernobylred was a lot of fun and reminded me that I'd like to be doing more of that.
Tonight, I look forward to a last meal at Vermont Street Barbeque to say good bye. *sniff* And the season premiere of Dollhouse! And possibly a session of Beatles Rock Band with
radcliffe. *squee*
Be seeing you.
