Spoiler Free Movie Review
Jul. 20th, 2006 01:06 pmWent to see "A Scanner Darkly" with
gmskarka,
gamera_spinning and
rougewench on Tuesday at the Tivoli in KC.
I have never read the novel, and therefore cannot comment on it's accuracy or interpretation of same, but it was a very good film. I had wondered about the point of doing an entire movie in this rotoscoped fashion, but it worked very well in combination with the "mind-fuck" aspect of the story line. The rotoscoping also worked well for the film's one major special effect requirement.
And as
rougewench also pointed out, I found it interesting that a film about drugs had a cast full of actors known to have problems with addiction. Robert Downey Jr. is brilliant, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder both fail to be annoying, and Woody Harrelson is damned funny.
Go forth to an art house and watch this movie.
