Went to see "A Scanner Darkly" with [livejournal.com profile] gmskarka, [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning and [livejournal.com profile] rougewench on Tuesday at the Tivoli in KC.

I have never read the novel, and therefore cannot comment on it's accuracy or interpretation of same, but it was a very good film. I had wondered about the point of doing an entire movie in this rotoscoped fashion, but it worked very well in combination with the "mind-fuck" aspect of the story line. The rotoscoping also worked well for the film's one major special effect requirement.

And as [livejournal.com profile] rougewench also pointed out, I found it interesting that a film about drugs had a cast full of actors known to have problems with addiction. Robert Downey Jr. is brilliant, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder both fail to be annoying, and Woody Harrelson is damned funny.

Go forth to an art house and watch this movie.

Some days, the titles of the articles I process are much more amusing than they should be...

For instance:

I get regular giggles from requests for articles from the "Journal of Controlled Release". It's an engineering manual. Probably about some sort of highly boring technical process. But that title...

And today, an article titled "Low cycle fatigue behavior and creep fatigue life prediction..."

Do you suffer from creep fatigue? I know I do.
