My irregularly scheduled weekend update will commence with last Thursday, instead of the more usual Friday, mainly because I want to remember that we reviewed my first submission to the writing group on Thursday, and my friends don't think I suck! At writing anyway. I had been a bit worried because this is the first time I have spent any serious time on my writing since moving back to Lawrence. It is very encouraging and means quite a lot to have people whose opinions I respect be interested in my work and willing to offer helpful advice.

Friday we stayed in, mostly due to feeling under the weather. [livejournal.com profile] gmskarka and I have both been hit with various heavy allergy type symptoms recently, so we chose to relax on the couch and eat Mexican food from El Mezcal while watching "Walk the Line". All three are highly recommended activities, as long as you take them in moderation. We finished out the evening with a couple of episodes of "Millenium", which I am determined to watch all of, despite the fact that it suffered greatly from Chris Carter's complete lack of focus or direction. The more I see of it, the more I am convinced that he never developed the show past the five concept lines he had scribbled on a napkin somewhere, and yet every so often, the stuff he pulled out of his ass for a single episode was really cool. Plus, it only lasted for two seasons, so I know my suffering will be brief. Besides, I was able to salve my wounds with Battlestar Galactica, which was good enough that I may have to watch it again tonight.

Saturday I left Gareth sleeping off his allergies and I was up and out the door by the crack of eleven to run errands. First stop: Toyota dealership. Why? Because I had my oil changed there about two weeks ago, and the mechanic left my oil cap loose, which led to it unscrewing itself until it was sitting sideways in the opening and allowing oil to spray all over the inside of the engine compartment. I added enough oil to get across town and then had to drive with the windows open to the rain, because fumes were venting into the passenger compartment through the vents. Not fun. The guys at the dealership were quite efficient about the whole thing though. They gave the car a fresh oil change, topped up all the other fluidy stuff, washed out the engine compartment and gave me a coupon for a free oil change the next time it's needed. I'll use it, but I'll definitely be checking under the hood next time.

I then finished off the rest of my errands with some birthday-present-type purchases for certain peoples and a stop at Best Buy to pick up a new leash - I mean cell phone. Yes, I know that they're handy in emergencies and what-not and that it will make it much easier for Gareth to call home from business trips, but when he's not traveling, I get stuck with it, and I hate phones! Bleh. At least I can limit the amount of people who get this number. I spent the rest of the afternoon puttering at home, and getting ready for the birthday party for [livejournal.com profile] berkie and Don Evans. The party was quite nice, smallish, with lots of people whom I find delightful to talk to. And pomegranate-[livejournal.com profile] breaca is delicious. :)

We stayed in bed on Sunday until noon-ish, then only got up in order to go comic shopping and have lunch at Vermont Street Barbeque before coming home to lounge around and read said comics before the Oscars came on. Okay, I lounged, Gareth had to work for a bit. But I got to read two entire collections of "Fables" in one go. I rock at lazy Sunday afternoon reading!

That's pretty much it, which is good, since this got kinda long.
