OMG! WOW! What a fantastic way to end a series!!!!!

That's right, I'm talking about Ashes to Ashes.

Non-Spoilery Short Review: I love this show! The finale was really good. I loved the ending idea, and the fact that it tied up and answered questions for both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. And that even then it managed to be a bit ambiguous.

That being said, I do have a few minor things to quibble about:

I like that idea that both shows were set inside a Fiddler's Green for police, created from the undying will of a young Constable Gene Hunt. However, it does create a few issues if one is looking for a black and white answer to the nature of Hunt's paradise - or intentions. And what about the people who "die" there? Are they waking up? Or moving on?

Like Ray - While it was great that Chris and Shaz were able to work through their deaths so quickly - they had each other and all - I think it would have been a nice touch to see Ray choose to stay with the Guv a while longer. It really felt like his storyline got left hanging -(Sorry.) - he still had some issues to work out about his death, and maybe helping a few more police out would have helped him, too.

Or Sam Tyler - I actually have the biggest problem with what this ending does to him. Probably because I had less of a problem with him killing himself when what he was choosing instead was unexplained. With the ending they chose here, I can't get around the fact that he just up and jumped off a building to get back to Hunt's Green - which ought to be a place that helps you deal with your death - not cause you to seek it out.

As for Alex - Dammit! The ending was sad enough - why couldn't we have a requited love story between her and Hunt? Sam found Annie, Chris and Shaz found each other - why couldn't Alex stay on for a while? I mean look lady - you're dead. You can't go back to Molly. You felt good about helping the others find their peace. Why not stick around and help out a few more cops, and have a few laughs with the Gene-genie while you're at it? Of course, my attitude on this might have more than a little bit to do with the fact that...

I must also confess - I have an inexplicable, MASSIVE CRUSH on Philip Glenister's Gene Hunt. And the Quattro.

Seriously. (In the realm of TMI, if he had me shoved me up against a wall, he totally wouldn't have to stop at frisking.) I thought at first it was just the Hunt character (which was odd enough, trust me), but it seems to have carried over to Philip Glenister in general.

Even when he does an atrocious American accent...

That's him in Demons. Which was AWFUL. He was the best thing about it. Well, him and Gladiolus Thrip, the odd little bird-vampire on the left. Thrip was pretty creepy.

Anyway, if you haven't yet, catch up on Ashes to Ashes. It's damn good TV, and even if you need to watch all of Life on Mars too, it won't take you anywhere near as long as it did to get to the end of Lost. You can skip Demons, though. Really.

If any of you did watch 'Ashes', please feel free to discuss in the comments. Spoil away!
